Porsgrunn High School
Porsgrunn High School is one of the largest high schools in Telemark. The school has approximately 1050 students and 165 employees. The students are between 16 and 19 years old. Upon completion of the final exam at Porsgrunn High School, the students are qualified for working life or for further studies at a university or college.
The school has two campuses. At the North Campus, subjects in the study specialization program and athletics are offered. At the South Campus, we have professional program areas such as design and handicrafts, media and communications and technology subjects.
The school has one principal, Laila Lerum and two study vice principals. Each program area is lead by a manager.
An operations council is an advisory body for the principal consisting of representatives from all unions at the school. We also have a school environment committee where the students are in the majority. This is also an advisory body for the principal.
The students elect a student council president who has close cooperation with the school’s leaders.
The school’s vision is: Working together towards achievement, diversity and a good school environment.
We want our educational environment to be known by all, both the teachers and students, as education focused. We have good qualified teachers, and we have routines to provide all students with an adaptable education. On questionnaires, we score high on well-being and environment, and we seldom have tendencies towards bullying. The school wants to promote good health with healthy food choices in the cafeteria. The school is tobacco free, no smoking is allowed inside the school premises.
From the start of this school year and thereafter, students are allowed to borrow as many text books as they need which are supplied free of charge. Access to computers is good. Some program areas need to use computers more than others. Though, everyone is provided a computer education. After school hours, communication takes place between the students and teachers electronically.
The library is available for all students at both the South and North Campuses. In addition to school subjects, they can also find fictional literature.
All students have a contact teacher who has special responsibility for the student. The contact teacher has responsibility for good communication with the student. The contact teacher will ensure that the student enjoys being at school, that they are experiencing the learning environment in a good way, and if the contact teacher can eventually help with difficulties in the student’s academic and personal development.
The school has a nurse who is some days at the North Campus and other days at the South Campus. At both campuses, there are advisors for career guidance and for those students who may have personal problems or problems with their education.
We look forward to showing our Chinese guests our school.
Welcome!
